The Parsonage Choir sing As Tears Go By by
|
‘At first I was uncertain about whether or not going into a building I would have an emotional response, or feel anything that would give me a kick start or knee jerk reaction. So, I came down to see Minty here one Friday afternoon after work [...] It was actually quite weird because I felt quite tearful when I came into the Panopticon and she was playing the pianola to me and stuff [...] I did feel a wee bit overwhelmed [...] I think it’s really sad because this building’s very neglected. But you get a sense of what’s gone on here and how grand it’s been in the past and how frail things can be if you don’t look after them [...] I thought As Tears Go By would be quite perfect, especially for the choir, because it speaks about somebody being a bit old and being neglected and feeling disenfranchised from what’s going on round about them and being displaced because of age [...] “Doing things I used to do they think are new” [...] Young people are always looking for new things to do and they sometimes neglect the beauty that’s in their past around them.’ (Janis F. Murray, October 2007) |
