Ross Sinclair

Ross Sinclair sings Wan Light by Orange Juice.

‘The words seemed to suggest
[...] this sort of idea of the
music hall being this other
place. The first line is: “There is
a place which no-one has seen,
where it’s still possible to
dream”. I suppose the whole of
my practice or creative life or
however you want to call it is a
bit like that. It’s about how to
make this space that could be
another kind of space - even for
a moment. Or a window into
another world, or something like
that [...] I don’t know, the song
suggested that.
But also, it’s a song that I’ve
kind of known for 20 years
and really liked. You know,
Edwyn Collins is the singer
in Orange Juice, although it
was [written by] James Kirk -
one of his few songs. [In the]
last couple of years, Edwyn
Collins had this brain
haemorrhage and nearly died.
[...] But he fought his way back.
That whole re-learning thing
is really interesting [...] Also,
James Kirk, was [...] such an
amazing, fantastic songwriter
[...] But just gives it out so
sparingly.
So, anyway, all that was in this
sort of cloud in my mind...’
